Pho at City Plaza

Ventured out for dinner with friends to City Plaza (tai koo). After a 15 minute relaxing ride on the ding ding arrived to the food court to see my first spotting of Pho in hong kong.

Now, this is no Pho888 or Mekong – it’s too clean!

The menu’s are in English (always a plus being able to order), though, struggled to actually understand what they were asking.

The taste is good, but not as good as back in AU. I got the raw beef – it’s also lacking a bit in the beef department, but still ok!

Escalator and crowd etiquette

So, a few weeks here and I still don’t really have the hang of things.

I’ve picked up a few puzzling things though.

Escalators:

Now, Hong Kong is derrived from a Brittish colony. Driving is done on the left, cars are right hand drive. Escalators – the one on the left is going in your direction, things seem normal right? Wrong.

If you’re not walking up, you should keep to the right. This I cannot understand!

Everything else suggests to keep left, but it’s not followed.

Another tip for escalators, if the stairs are a relative short distance, take them. You’ll find huge queues of people to get onto the escalator and where there is a lift – people will run full tilt to get it ( especially old ladies.)

If you want to avoid the queue, crowd an etiquette you don’t understand, the stairs are the place to be!

Crowds:

Crowds here have an amazing dynamic with thousands of people shoved into small spaces, yet somehow there is still a way to navigate through this chaos.

I have no idea how this works as yet, as my attempts to navigate said crowds always end with bumping and pushing past people. Maybe just need more practice first :-)
