… you should try rice pizza’s!

Rice Pizza!

Wandered past this place in Wan Chai on my first night in Hong Kong. Like the Samurai Rice Burger in Box Hill, they’ve replaced the traditional brad for Rice!

I didn’t actually try the Pizza’s here, but when I’m back to Hong Kong I’ll give it a go.

At the St. Pauls ruins

At the St. Paul’s ruins in Macau. I bumped into some cool chicks from Toronto several times. First time they were looking for this place. Second, it was at another land mark nearby.

At Macau Meuseum... The cannon is comically placed towards one casino

The second place where I saw the girls from Toronto, Macau Museum. This cannon is comically pointed towards one of the larger casinos, to repel the invasion?

huge casinos

The size of these casinos is just so huge. The only thing to make you understand how they can get so big is the amount of money they turn over. While the house always wins, I managed a tip of HK$100 at the blackjack tables, walking away quickly after i had more than I started with.

Macau GP

The day I ventured to Macau was the day of the GP. I didn’t buy tickets, but grabbed a few glimpses as passing. Oh the noise.

Chungking Mansion

As I loved “ChungKing express” so much (Its not a john woo movie, but still ok) i had to visit Chungking Mansion. Its the place to go for a curry, or very very very cheap accomidation.

Recommend keeping your hand on your wallet though – many a pick pocket around here, esp. in the crowds.

Roti Babi @ Kedai Makanan Yut Kee

Author: Tom  |  Category: Food

Kedai Makanan Yut Kee

Kedai Makanan Yut Kee is apparently one of the oldest coffee houses in KL. This was my first stop – quite close to Sentral, after catching the Bus from LCCT and arriving from the AirAsia flight from Melbourne.

Firstly – the airasia flight was quite ok. The seat was no different to that from SIA, service was ok, you just have to pay for your drinks.

Anyway, We stopped here for Roti Babi, as this is meant to be excellent.

Sorry about the image quality – only taken with my phone camera. The Roti babi was quite ok.

The Roti also contain onion inside, as well as the pork, a little bland so I can see why the locals grab a huge pile of Chilli Sauce to go with it.

Anyway, its always good to try these old places :)

Pork Wonton Mee @ Bangsar Village

Pork Congee

I was taken for a typical Chinese breakfast yesterday morning at Bangsar Village. I had the Pork Congee (as pictured above). It was great, the fried intestines, pork meat, the blood jelly – wonderful (well, except the blood jelly – I left that behind :) )

Also had Pork Wonton Mee:

The meal was great – so so so tasty. The best Char Siu I’ve had!

If it wasn’t for the humidity and the bugs in the water – I’d be putting on a lot of weight :)

Restoran Ah Ping Bah Kut Teh

Restoran Ah Ping Bah Kut Teh

Everywhere you go in the ‘burb’s of KL – you can see lots of places looking like this one.

Cheap tables, lots of fluroscent lights and packed full of people getting their eat on. Restoran Ah Ping was my first dinner in KL which i was treated to by some local Hokkiens :)

The Bah Kut Teh is pork soup – nothing is spared. There was plenty of offal to go around along with the good meat in this delicious herbal soup.

Bah Kut Teh

The soup was steaming hot when it arrived at out table. Came with a cup of rice on our plates, some boc choy on the side.

We demolished it – even with three refills of the soup  there wasn’t much left.

Demolished

Apparently – this one is a good Hokkien one – which is much better than the teochow cooking it. Either way – it was great.

Cuppacakes

Today, I was lucky enough to get taken to Wondermilk for some Cuppacakes! Unfortuantely, I wasn’t feeling too hungry, so couldn’t really have a main meal, but was more than happy with the fries! (these will make you jealous betty!)

Fries!

The others I attended with had a hotdog and roasted potato:

Unfortuantely, I just couldn’t stomach either! Luckily, we actually got whats important – the cupcakes.

I also managed to pick up some digital-lomo cameras! (after much trouble with my credit card not being accepted because it doesn’t have a chip :( – I shall rant to my bank about that)

A nice sweet treat for my second day in Malaysia. A store as insanely cute as this really doesn’t seem the norm – they have an epic love for lomogrophy too!

Pho Bo Ga Mekong Vietnam

Pho (Raw Beef & Sliced Chicken)Pho Condiments

The Mekong is the first Pho I’ve had. Introduced to it a few years ago when I first moved to Melbourne.

Pho is Vietnamese Rice Noodles Soup, full of delicious flavour. (oh the wondeful taste of MSG). Normally as initation, we’re dragged along to have the “Special” with blood jelly, brisket, giblets and all. Not quite for me.

Since trying the Mekong, I’ve had Pho at several other places, my favourite being Pho888 in Box Hill. The flavour is consistantly better at Pho888, though if you go to the Mekong at the end of the day, you’ll get a wonderful soup after its being brewing all day.

For a good cheap meal – this is your stop. Apparently even Bill Clinton came to the Mekong and had two bowls. How many can you have!

Station Hotel Footscray

300g John Dee (QLD)120 day grain fed Black Angus scotch fillet

Friday night, we managed to squeeze in a booking at The Station Hotel, Footscray.  The Station hotel is an attempt to bring an upmarket meal to a pub – and quite a success.

They stock a wonderful selection of Australian Beef, Black Angus, grain and grass fed as well as a selection of Wagyu.

The steaks are cooked to perfection, very well seasoned. An option of sauces is available (Bernaise and Pepper), though the steak is much better without (though i still get the bernaise to dip my chips in :-)

The service at the Station is brilliant,  well exceeding the price of the meal.

Unfortunately, the steaks are so filling, you won’t have room for desert though a Sticky date pudding or slab of Pavlova may be very tempting.

A good value meal, or even a classy night out.
